It resisted one war, but collapsed after the bombs of February 1945. Until then, the Frauenkirche had been world-famous as a Baroque masterpiece since 1743.

A thousand years of history are associated with the Frauenkirche. The site where the new famous Frauenkirche today stands was once occupied by numerous predecessor churches.

The church was not to be rebuilt in the GDR, but hope for this remained unwavering. This hope was further boosted by the "Appeal from Dresden" in 1990.

Twelve years passed between removing the debris and completing the construction – a short time for the mighty building. This period brought much joy, but also aggravation.
