Some 60 years after its destruction, the rebuilt Frauenkirche has been consecrated. Tens of thousands followed the service and celebrated a "Celebration of Joy".

An official service accompanied the erection of the cupola and cross on 22 June 2004. Thousands of Dresden locals and guests attended this historic event.

Thousands of people came to Dresden's Neumarkt on 22 June 2004 – and were overwhelmed. "Their" Frauenkirche had finally been crowned, and its bells tolled for the coronation.

It resisted one war, but collapsed after the bombs of February 1945. Until then, the Frauenkirche had been world-famous as a Baroque masterpiece since 1743. More information about their history you can find here.
